Your information
Privacy notice
Last updated: 7 October 2026
Roughly is a United Kingdom-based service. This notice explains what personal information Roughly uses, why it is used and the choices available to you.
Information we collect
- Account information: email address, user ID, authentication method and, if you use Google sign-in, basic profile information supplied by Google.
- Goals and profile information: information you choose to provide such as date of birth, sex, height, weight, activity level, goals and hand-span measurement.
- Food and activity information: meal descriptions, food photographs, portion notes, nutrition estimates, calories burned, daily notes and progress history.
- Subscription information: Stripe customer and subscription references, plan and subscription status. Roughly does not receive or store your full card details.
- Community information: an optional display handle and any suggestions or feedback you choose to post. These posts and your handle are visible to other eligible tester-community members.
- Service information: sign-in times, feature use, AI request success, estimated AI usage and cost, and standard security or diagnostic logs.
How we use information
We use information to create and secure your account; save and synchronise your tracker; estimate meals; calculate daily and weekly progress; provide AI coaching; operate the tester community; manage subscriptions; support users; prevent misuse; diagnose faults; and understand aggregate product usage and operating cost.
Our legal reasons
We process account, tracker and subscription information where necessary to provide the service you request. We use limited service analytics and security information for our legitimate interests in operating, protecting and improving Roughly. We may retain transaction records where required by law.
Food, weight and goal information may reveal health-related information. You choose whether to provide it. By deliberately entering and saving this information, you explicitly consent to Roughly processing it to provide your tracker and estimates. You may withdraw that consent by deleting the information or asking us to delete your account, although this does not affect earlier lawful processing.
AI estimates
Information you submit for a meal estimate, including relevant photographs and descriptions, is sent securely to an AI service provider to generate the requested result. AI estimates can be inaccurate and must not be treated as medical or nutritional advice.
If you enable estimate improvement in your Goals, Roughly may use the difference between an original calorie estimate and your correction to improve similar estimates. Shared learning does not include your name, email address or photographs, and only applies after enough similar corrections have been received from multiple members. You can turn this off at any time in Goals; your own corrections may still be used to personalise your estimates.
Service providers and international processing
Roughly uses service providers including Supabase for accounts, database and file storage; OpenAI for AI-powered estimates and coaching; Stripe for subscriptions and payments; Vercel for hosting; and Google when you choose Google sign-in. These providers process information on Roughly’s behalf under their own security and data-protection commitments. Processing may take place outside the UK using appropriate safeguards.
How long we keep information
Account and tracker information is generally retained while your account remains open. We delete or anonymise information when it is no longer needed, subject to backups, fraud prevention and legal record-keeping obligations. Payment and transaction records may be retained for the period required by tax and accounting law.
Security
We use access controls, authenticated accounts and row-level database security designed to keep each user’s tracker private. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please use a unique password and protect access to your email and Google account.
Optional health context for AI coaching
These details adapt general food, activity and tracking habit feedback using submitted and collected data only. They are not used to provide medical advice, assess symptoms or medication safety, diagnose conditions or recommend treatment.
With your separate explicit consent, Roughly stores optional GLP-1 status, pregnancy status, a due date and brief coaching notes in your private account settings with our account provider, Supabase. Providing these details is optional and is not a condition of using the tracker. Relevant details are processed with OpenAI to adapt private daily and weekly feedback. The due-date field is used to derive approximate pregnancy timing; the field itself is not sent to the AI. Any health details you put into your free-text notes may be included.
These settings are not published to the community, displayed in member activity statistics, sold or used for advertising. They are used for the coaching feature you request. This is health-related information; our stated lawful basis for this optional processing is your consent, including explicit consent for health details.
Uncheck consent and save in Goals to remove the optional settings and stop their use in new feedback. Previously generated summaries may still contain earlier health references, and diary information you separately entered remains until you remove it or request account deletion. Previous summaries from this optional feature are not supplied to the AI for new coaching after withdrawal. Withdrawal does not affect processing that already took place; our providers’ retention and backup arrangements also apply as described in this notice.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law gives you rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or receive a copy of your information, and to object to certain processing. You may also withdraw consent and complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
Children
Roughly is not intended for children under 16 and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.
